Chamber Chat: End-of-Year Updates for Local Business

Chamber Chat: End-of-Year Updates for Local Business

In our final video for 2025, Phil Henry and I sat down at The Cheeky Fork to run through the key updates for local business as we head into the Christmas break. You can watch the full conversation above, but here are the main points we covered.

New Grant for Businesses Affected by Crime
If your business has recently been a victim of crime, you may be eligible for funding between $5,000 and $20,000. It’s a 50% co-contribution model, and details are available here. We also provide support letters for eligible members applying for grants.

Public Holiday Staffing Requirements
With Christmas and New Year around the corner, employers need to ensure they make genuine requests, not requirements, when asking staff to work public holidays. Clear notice, consideration of personal circumstances and updated policies are all essential. Links to full guidance here.

Staffing, Retention & Workshops
We touched on the ongoing challenge of recruitment heading into the busy season. We’re gathering interest for workshops on staff management and retention for 2026. If that’s relevant to you, let us know.

Buy Local Livingstone Campaign
Running through to 5 January, shoppers can upload receipts from any Livingstone Shire business for the chance to win a battery lawnmower worth $900.

Chamber Christmas Party – Rocky Smash Rooms
To finish the year with a bit of fun (and stress relief), we’re hosting a “Smashing Christmas Party” at the Rocky Smash Rooms on Sunday 7 December, 10am–midday. Tickets are $25 and numbers are limited.

Thanks to everyone who has supported the Chamber throughout 2025. We hope you enjoy the break and return fresh for 2026.
