Small and family businesses across Central Queensland now have access to new funding designed to strengthen safety and reduce the impacts of crime, following the launch of the Queensland Government’s Secure Communities Partnership Program.
The program supports businesses that have experienced significant crime or anti-social behaviour in the past three years—issues that local operators continue to raise with the Capricornia Chamber of Commerce as a barrier to trade, staff wellbeing, and day-to-day operations. Chamber advocacy has highlighted the financial and emotional strain crime places on local operators, and the need for support to help them stay resilient.
Under the program, eligible businesses can apply for grants of $5,000 to $20,000 (excluding GST), with applicants required to co-contribute at least 50% of total project costs. Funding can be used for a range of safety and security measures aimed at deterring crime and improving the overall safety of business precincts.
By helping businesses invest in protective infrastructure, the program aims to create safer commercial areas, reduce economic losses, and improve the operating environment for small and family enterprises across Queensland.
Local business owners who have been affected by crime are encouraged to review the eligibility criteria and consider applying.
