The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is calling on Central Queensland communities to help shape the future of regional aviation, with a local engagement session to be held later this month in Gracemere.
With Queensland’s current Air Service Contracts set to expire in December 2026, TMR is undertaking statewide consultation to better understand how regional aviation services are performing and where improvements are needed. For communities like Rockhampton, Gracemere and the wider Capricorn region—where reliable air travel underpins education, health access, family connection, business travel and tourism—this feedback will help define priorities for the next round of contracts.
Stakeholders are invited to share their experiences at an open-house style engagement session:
Date: Monday, 24 November
Time: 9:00am – 1:00pm
Location: Gracemere Community Hall, Shop 6/12 Barry Street, Gracemere
The drop-in format allows attendees to speak directly with departmental staff at any time throughout the four-hour window. TMR hopes this approach encourages open discussion, transparency, and strong local participation.
For those unable to attend in person, an online survey is also available. Community input—whether face-to-face or online—will help TMR build a clearer understanding of aviation’s role in regional connectivity, accessibility, and economic development.
Local businesses, advocacy groups, and residents who rely on regional air services are encouraged to contribute to the consultation and ensure Central Queensland’s needs are strongly represented.
